We may both agree health is our greatest asset, but how is it measured? How do we truly know if we're healthy or not? When asked the simple question "How do you know if you’re healthy?" most will answer "You're healthy if you feel good." Some may even base health on how they look. A fitness or health model may lead you to assume, "That’s what a healthy person looks like." Yikes! While looking and feeling healthy have some merit, by basing your health solely on looks and feel, the ginormous problem is that you’ll never think or do anything about your health until you feel or look bad. Sound the alarm! With that approach you might become a part of the statistics. Yuck - no one wants that! Welp, you may be surprised to learn that the top 3 leading killers in the U.S. are actually caused by things you don't feel and don’t see – until it’s too late. Check this out… The 3rd leading cause of death in the U.S. is heart disease. This unfortunate disease kills over 550,000 people a year. 80% of the time the first symptom of heart disease is a heart attack, and 50% of those heart attacks end in death. If you wait until you feel heart disease it could be too late! The 2nd leading cause of death in the U.S. is cancer. This devastating disease kills over 800,000 people a year. Most people with cancer don't have a noticeable symptom until their cancer is in the last stage. If you wait until that point to start improving your health, it could be too late! Can you guess the #1 leading cause of death in the U.S.? It’s hidden in the fine print. According to a study by Gary Null Ph.D. (and many other reputable physicians) published in Time Magazine, the leading cause of death is medical malpractice and prescription drug reactions, killing nearly 1,000,000 people a year. Yes, one million. Ouch! “They also believe the numbers are actually much higher because most iatrogenic deaths aren’t reported as such: only 5 to 20% of iatrogenic deaths are reported for fear of lawsuits and because codes for reporting deaths due to drug side effects and other medical errors don’t even exist in many cases. The number of deaths due to conventional medicine may be 20 times higher than the numbers depicted here.” ~ Dr. Axe In a society that bases their health on how they look and feel it’s no surprise really. Do you think: "If a drug covers up my symptom (like aches, pain, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol), and I don't feel it any more, I must be healthy." Is that really healthy? The short answer is "No." AWaiting until you have a symptom, and then masking it with a drug, is the number one cause of death in this country. So, what is health? The World Health Organization (WHO) defines health as: "…the optimal functioning of the body, mentally, physically, socially, and spiritually, but not merely the absence of sickness or disease." As you see, health is not merely how you look or feel; it’s how you function! What controls the function of your body? Yes, you got it – "Your nervous system!" Precisely why we always start with function first when addressing any health issue. Yes, food is important. And fitness, too. Yet if the one thing controlling every function of your body is off, you’ll never achieve health. The chiropractic adjustment removes interference in your nervous system and allows your body to function at it's best. So every time you get adjusted in our office, it’s not just "spending time" or "money." You are INVESTING in YOUR LIFE. You are improving your health, creating a legacy, and changing your family tree! Ready to invest in your health? Call our office at 978-846-1964. See you soon! Best in health, “The Death by Medicine doctors also took a look at unnecessary medical care over the course of a decade. They found that 89 million people are hospitalized unnecessarily each year and that 17 million iatrogenic events will occur among this number. 75 million Americans receive unnecessary medical procedures over a decade, 15 million of which result in an iatrogenic event. 164 million people will receive unneeded medical treatment within a decade.” ~ Dr. Axe Comments are closed.
