How many chiropractic sessions are required?
The number of sessions required depends on the severity of the injury and your body’s natural healing capacity. At your initial consultation, one of our chiropractic sports physicians will gather all relevant information and perform an in-depth nervous system analysis. Afterwards, we will provide you an estimate on the number of sessions required as well as recommended exercises you can do at home to expedite your recovery.
Can you treat all sports-related injuries?
Our chiropractors are able to treat a wide range of sports-related injuries such as sprains, strains, and tears. At Functional Health & Chiropractic Care, our primary goal is to help YOU the best way possible. If we find that chiropractic or the other services we offer are not the best route, we will recommend an alternative approach... so if your injury is not something we can help you with - we will find someone that can. Either way, we'll help you along your path of recover!
What type of clothing should I wear to my appointment?
We recommend wearing comfortable and loose-fitting clothing to your scheduled appointments. If necessary, you may be asked to change into an examination gown for a more accurate assessment.

Each year we see athletic performance draw closer to the limits of human potential. In the pursuit of breaking barriers, many amateur and professional athletes have experienced a time when they are sidelined with injuries that could have been avoided. They sit-out on the bench because their injury does not respond to ordinary treatment, and some athletes are even forced to retire. Still others continue playing, but at less than peak efficiency, simply because their structural system is not balanced. Progressive coaches, athletes, and doctors are realizing that pain-killing drugs are not the answer. They merely cover up the symptoms, deceiving the athlete into actions possibly making the injury more serious or begin the development of long-term chronic conditions. Probably more than any other health profession, Chiropractor's approach to health most closely relates to the needs of an athletic participant.
Most sports involve body contact, fast starts and stops, and positioning that places an unusual amount of strain on the back and musculo-skeletal system. Doctors of Chiropractic consider a person as an integrated being, giving special attention to the spine, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and nerves. Chiropractic is a natural health care method that stresses the importance of keeping all the systems of the body functioning efficiently so the player enjoys peak performance, a minimum risk of injury, and faster recuperative powers. Many world class and Olympic athletes, as well as professional stars and teams, have retained sports chiropractors to provide care. Joe Montana, Lance Armstrong, Nolan Ryan, Muhammad Ali, Kareem Abdul-Jubbar, and Carl Lewis all utilize chiropractic care. The Players Association of the NFL has officially incorporated sports chiropractors as a regular part of care. WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC? Chiropractic is a science and art based on the premise that good health depends, in part, upon a normally functioning nervous system. When there is interference in the nervous system caused by a misaligned or malfunctioning spine, tissues and organs may not function properly. Detection of these problem areas ("subluxations" as we call them), and their correction by spinal manipulation will relieve nerve interference and allow the spine and nervous system to return to a healthy state. Correction of the problem and maintaining good health is the goal of Chiropractic.
WHAT CAN BE TREATED WITH CHIROPRACTIC CARE? The primary treatment of the Doctor of Chiropractic is manipulation (an "adjustment") to those areas of the spine or surrounding joints which are slightly displaced and fail to function normally. An adjustment is given by hand (the word chiropractic means "done by hand"), and it will restore proper alignment and function to the spinal joints, thereby restoring the normal nerve transmission and healing potential to the vital structures of the body. Therapeutic exercise, massage, and nutritional support are part of patient’s care when appropriate. Injuries like sprains (ankle), strains (eg. pulled muscles), tendinitis (eg. tennis elbow), and bursitis (eg. shoulder pain), as well as joint problems in the spine, shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, hip, knee, ankle, and foot can all be treated effectively with chiropractic care. These are all good reasons to seek chiropractic care. However, the beauty of Chiropractic is not only drug-free and surgery free care, but also preventative and performance enhancing care. Maintaining proper alignment will allow athletes to be prepared for their sport. Many of the greatest athletes in the world are adjusted before competition as a "tune-up" in an effort to place their bodies in a state of peak efficiency.
